BE THE BEST I CAN BE:
I've always had this attitude. Not much point in not having it really. Having said that, I don't always live up to my own standards. Having standards in the first place is a good ideal. With those in place at least we have something to strive for and to measure ourselves against in terms of progress.
Since I've stayed mostly active throughout my life (given the fact I do a lot of manual labour, even during times when I haven't participated in sports or done any training, my muscles have still been given a workout most weeks), my biggest slip up has been the accumulation of body fat at two moments in life...University and during the making of Transmission 6-10.
I forgave myself for each (which is an important thing to do) and then tried to learn from my mistakes.
BLUBBER BY DESIGN:
I like to think that everything I've ever done has been on purpose. It has to be that way to keep things positive. So...when I got fat it must have been on purpose - or at the very least it has to have served a purpose!
Thinking that logic through in a biological level the reason becomes fairly obvious - I got fat so that in the future I could use that stored energy to sustain my body when I was no-longer consuming the same types and quantities of food. Makes sense right!
Well it only made sense when I actually did start utilising my stored energy reserves. Then it made perfect sense - especially when I understood the science behind what my body was doing with all those doughnuts!
THE SIN OF GLUTTONY:
Another way I looked at my burgeoning body was as a sin. I'm not religious, but I am spiritual. When it dawned on me that just how greedy I must have been to have put on 20kg without even trying, there was a twinge of guilt involved. Again...I took that feeling and twisted in to a positive - I utilised it as a motivator.
You see, my lazy lard ass must have just gone through a period of hibernation...bears do it so why couldn't I. Bears eventually get around to using that stored fat so my turn had come around = time to just eat less and move more.
SQUARING IT WITH THE UNIVERSE:
A guilty conscience never rests well. If you think about what actually goes in to the process of putting food on our plates (and consider that an awful lot of people don't have enough food on a daily basis) you will realise that it is an awful lot. Take my go-to-mentioned favourite...the doughnut. Just a few simple ingredients right and nothing more...break it down:
•Farming...
-Toiling to grow their crops...with and against the forces of nature
-The flour, sugar, butter, eggs, yeast, salt, milk, water and jam (never forget the jam...or chocolate...or custard - I like all sorts of doughnuts except the ones where they didn't make the most of middle...like they just couldn't be bothered with it so left a gaping hole - unless they make up for that neglect by covering the whole thing in some sort of delicious glazing...but I digress)...those few simple ingredients come from a whole host of sources
-Harvesting of whole foods
-Storage prior to transportation
•Transportation of the whole foods
•Storage prior to distribution to manufacturer
•Further transportation and storage of whole foods ready for production
•Making my damn delicious doughnut takes and army of people operating and maintaining machine...but before that, the machines were designed...the factory built...Krispy Kreme had to afford to do that, so there business was grown in order to do so
•Processed foods require...
-Designing
-Marketing
-Packaging
-Distribution networks
-All levels of management and expertise to run their enterprises
•Distribuiton to selling outlets...
-Who themselves have all levels of a business in operation
Finally, I come along, buy and devour it without a seconds thought. So...think about it for a while...that doughnut you are having, after already eating more food in a single day than some get in several, has had a life of its own and created a carbon footprint along the way. Some of the transportations can be across continents or intercontinental.
By actually utilising my fat stores I've squared every indulgence in terms of Sin and The Universe. :) Pat on back!! Since I've nothing stored anymore, no matter what I ate, throughout my life, it has been used! That's pretty darn cool if you ask me.
